Caves - Chumphon
In my explorations around Chumphon I found more than 30 caves, both large and small. The most famous of them, Rap Ro cave, is hardly worth more than a short trip. The largest (and best) cave is Pissadarn Cave, 30 km north of the town near Kapo Waterfall. You will find huge rooms and very large formations of stalactites and stalagmites which are in very good condition. Inside the main room there are thousands of bats, hung high on the ceiling.
Another cave worth visiting, if you are a bit adventurous, is in Pathiu, just out of town and it is called Tham Nam Lot. It is an 800 metre long tunnel under a mountain and is full of water. It is possible to cross the cave from one side to the other as the water is never more than a metre and a half in the deepest point.
