Ko Hong (Room Island)
is a limestone island, completely surrounded by cliff walls so that it
looks like a huge hall with one entrance and open to the sky. There are many Hong Islands in the Bay of Phang Nga.
Access to these islands is only by a narrow cave channel. Due to the low cave roof, only kayaks can get through at the suitable water level.
Entering the sunlit hall from the dark cave will instill an immense feeling of the creative power of nature. When entering this natural wonder in solitude this unique experience will remain in your soul for the rest of your life. |

"Die Hong-Tour mit dem Entdecker der Hongs, John Gray, vor 20 Jahren war einer der Höhepunkte meines Lebens. Das Eintreten aus dem dunklen Nichts in die großartige Schaffenskraft der Natur hat sich für immer in meine Seele eingebrannt. Ein Geburtserlebnis bei vollem Bewusstsein." |

| I would like to point out that the 10 to 15 minutes after this experience are also very important for your emotional well-being. The quiet and peaceful paddling along the limestone cliffs and through the dense mangroves helps to bring the high spirit of your soul back to normal levels so that you are not shocked when normal life takes over on the large ships. On a private tour you have another 20 peaceful minutes of limestone cliff sightseeing before reaching James Bond Island. |

Ko Hong (Room Island) is a limestone island completely surrounded by a cliff so that it looks like a huge hall with one entrance. There are many islands like this in the Bay of Phang Nga.
Access to these islands is only by a narrow cave. Due to the low cave roof, only kayaks can get through the channel at a suitable water level. Entering the sunlit hall from the dark cave gives an immense feeling of the creative power of nature. The unique experience of entering this natural wonder in solitude will remain with you for the rest of your life.
The area is also good for swimming.
The first person to detect the hongs inside the towering limestone cliffs was John Gray, an adventurous American. He had seen similar rock formations on Fiji and investigated the Bay of Phang Nga with the first inflatable sea kayak. He then started his sea canoe company in order to show other nature lovers this marvel. In 1991 Richard and Ursula Doring were among his first highly impressed customers and subsequently described their experience in the Loose Guide Book.
In an area where there are several hongs, three big ships are permanently anchored carrying several dozen sea canoes and as many paddlers. The most convenient way to experience them now is by joining a Phang Nga Bay Tour with a stop at these ships. Most tours start from Phuket and arrive at the hongs after 10 am. It does get crowded quickly in the morning and is noisy also.
If you want to experience this tour in peace and solitude, it is best to arrive before 9 am, for example with the 5 Highlight Tour from Khao Lak.
